Santa Fe, New Mexico

2010 CNU Charter Award Winner

This 120 acre urban area represents the most significant real estate and community building opportunity in Santa Fe. Just south of downtown and the river, the site is made up of residential, commercial and civic buildings. The potential for a more cohesive outcome, mixed with in-fill solutions, drove our design team to enhance the potential of these spaces and tie them into the existing fabric that is unique to New Mexico.

Santa Fe State Capital Birdseye View

I led the design team in several goals.

  • Create a cohesive place that effectively brought together the residential neighborhoods, commercial buildings, and state capitol complex to effectively blend together and with the existing downtown.

  • Provide places that could be shared and used at all times of the day by the residents, businesses, civic employees, and the public.

  • Create a better ratio among commercial, residential, and civic buildings to promote economic activity while ensuring more sustainable, safe and community driven outcomes.

  • Utilize the region’s current architectural vernacular and building solutions to compliment place, enhance human experience, and handle the environmental challenges of being in the high desert.

  • Preserve the best of historic Santa Fe including the vistas of the mountains around.
