Re-design of a major franchise hotel to cohesively blend with the style of the surroundings in order to contribute to the streetscape. We were in a unique position where the owners of this property also owned the building and land to the north. This allowed us to propose future developments and position the new property to work together and create new plazas and spaces more conducive to the pedestrian experience.

Collaboration

  • Together with Richard Economakis of Notre Dame, we proposed to the city of South Bend and the owners, the opportunity to turn the previous College Football Hall of Fame half field into a plaza surrounded by smaller buildings to create a public place to meet, feel safe, and provide respite from the winter environment.

  • South Bend did not have public plazas and this would be a prime location in the heart of downtown to gather and hold public events.
